Year 2, Weeks 28–40 – Work Mode, Coastal Living & Speedway Nights

Well… it’s been a while! Quite a few weeks, actually… but the blog is back!

To be honest, not too much has been happening aside from working hard and topping up the bank account. We spent a solid two months on the Gold Coast, which also turned out to be the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends - both locals and those passing through this very popular tourist destination.

For most of our stay, we were based at Broadwater Tourist Park. A chilled-out park with two pools and a great location to explore the main tourist areas of the Gold Coast. We filled our time with bike rides, walks, and enjoying the perks of caravan park life during the summer holidays - food vans and live music being our favourites!

We also took a day trip up to Mount Tamborine, which we absolutely loved. A great little escape from the hustle and bustle of the coast, with quirky shops, stunning views, and some of the friendliest people.

During our stay, we also spent time at Tallebudgera Creek Tourist Park and wow, what a spot! When we first arrived, it was pouring rain and the usually Instagram-worthy creek was brown and stirred up. But give it a few days, and it was back to those crystal-clear blue waters.

Daily walks through Burleigh Heads National Park were great for the soul (even when we got caught in the odd storm), and the Talle Surf Club quickly became a regular stop during the week.

If you want to know exactly what we got up to, you can watch our Gold Coast Youtube video series here:

After wrapping up work on the Gold Coast, we made our way up to the Sunshine Coast for a short stay before continuing on to Toowoomba for our next work stint.

Back to Speedway Life

We headed straight to Toowoomba Speedway for the 360 Sprintcars National Title. One of the perks of attending is that you can stay right at the track. Super convenient!

A very happy Ryan!

After some downtime, we made our way to the event… and wow, what a shock to the system! We had well and truly adjusted to coastal summer life. Hot days and warm nights. So the sudden cold hit hard. Rugged up in hoodies and jeans, it was so chilly we couldn’t even manage a beer… opting instead for coffee and hot donuts!

The following day, we checked into the BIG4 Toowoomba Tourist Park. Reception told us we had a drive-through site… Ryan’s dream! But when we arrived, we realised it was under a massive tree (pine cones included).

With our Starlink mounted on the roof (essential for Rachael’s work), we had to chat with reception to find a solution. They were incredibly helpful and upgraded us to an ensuite site. Something we’d never had before… fancy! Not overly luxurious, but definitely a nice little upgrade.

The week passed by in a blur of work. Rachael found a great walking route - complete with a daily stop to chat with a very friendly Labrador, which quickly became a highlight.

The weekend was spent ticking off a few van maintenance jobs - cleaning drains, clearing cupboards, and getting everything back in order, plus a long FaceTime catch-up with Greg and Nicola.

More Speedway Action

The following weekend brought another big race meet. This time the 410 Sprintcars. Action packed as always! And this time, we learned from our mistakes… thermals and extra layers were a must.

Hit the road 🎵 — we’ve got places to be. – R&R
