Year 2, Weeks 20 & 21 – City Life, Birthdays & a Big Weekend Out

Well, we’ve been in Brisbane for just over two weeks now, and city life is certainly different! Our first week passed by in a blur of work and settling into our new spot.

Birthday Celebrations in the Big Smoke

Thursday rolled around, which meant it was Rachael’s birthday! We celebrated by heading out to a Korean Charcoal BBQ restaurant, something we’ve always wanted to try. In the middle of your table sits a charcoal grill where you cook your own food—probably not the best choice in the height of summer because wow it gets hot!

You order your meats from a tablet at the table and then help yourself to the buffet for rice, noodles, dumplings and more. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we’ve already talked about going again before we leave.

Trading the Caravan for a Night in the City

On Saturday, we packed our bags and left the Zone RV caravan behind for the night, trading it in for a hotel stay in the city. We joined our friends Trent and Ash for a delicious lunch at a restaurant called Longwang. We cannot recommend this place highly enough—amazing food, exceptional service, and some very impressive cocktails!

After lunch, we wandered to a nearby pub for another drink, then decided to do something that three out of the four of us had never done… hire a karaoke room!

What started as “Let’s just get it for an hour” quickly turned into “No, no, we need another hour!” Two hours of laughter, music, and very questionable singing later, we were all in high spirits. From there we made our way to Holey Moley for some mini golf fun, finishing off the night with one last drink before heading back to the hotel.

The plan was to start early and finish early… but we didn’t crawl into bed until 2am! It was such a fun night, and it’s amazing how refreshing it can be to break away from the caravan every now and then. Just like when you live in a house—you sometimes need to escape your space.

Sunday was a very quiet day of naps, food and recovery!

A Quiet Week, Then a Musical Weekend

The following week was uneventful—work, eat, sleep, repeat. But the next weekend was much more chilled.

On Sunday we headed to HOYTS to see Wicked: For Good. Not Ryan’s first choice, but he took one for the team and came along for a very excited musical-obsessed Rachael.

Popcorn, M&M’s and two drinks cost us over $40! We seriously don’t know how families afford the movies regularly. Luckily, we had a gift voucher that covered our seats and part of the snack bill.

Walking into the cinema, we were greeted with recliner chairs… yes! When you live in a caravan and don’t have the comfiest of chairs, this is pure luxury. The movie was incredible and everything Rachael hoped for to conclude this epic story.

We spent the rest of the day prepping for the week ahead, then wandered just down the road from our caravan park to Sushi Train and Cold Rock for dinner. City life does have its perks, I guess!
