Year 2, Week 13 – Mackay and Mates

We’ve settled into Mackay for our first week of work here. First impressions? Honestly, it’s not that bad! Before we arrived, so many people had less-than-glowing things to say about Mackay, but we stand firm in our belief: never judge a place until you’ve seen it for yourself. Everyone’s experiences are different, and it’s always better to make your own informed decision.

One of the perks of working from home - Breakfast Excursions!

The week rolled along quietly—work, eat, get eaten alive by mozzies and midges at sunset, sleep, repeat. Standard Queensland life really!

Midweek, we got a phone call from our friends Greg and Tracie from Caravanning and Camping Oz. They were passing through and asked which caravan park we were staying at. After a quick chat, they booked in for two nights—something to look forward to come Friday!

When Friday arrived, Rachael was tapping away at her laptop when she spotted another Zone caravan reversing into the site next door… it was Greg and Tracie! Talk about meant to be.

Greg and Ryan Cooking up a storm!

The weekend that followed was filled with catch-ups, plenty of laughs, a few too many beverages, and some delicious food. It reminded us how special it is to meet like-minded people on the road. We’ve only met Greg and Tracie once before, but we knew straight away they were mates for life. Can’t wait until we cross paths again soon!

A seafood van parked up at the caravan park over the weekend …. Oysters Kilpatrick it is!

On Sunday, we dusted off the bikes and rode down to the marina, hoping to stop in at the surf club for a cheeky drink. Sadly, they were already closed for the day—guess we’ll just have to try again next weekend!

Hit the road 🎵 — we’ve got places to be. – R&R
