Year 2, Week 3 – The Countdown Ends, Curried Sausages & Campfire Stories
Our final week of work (for now!) flew by in a blur of planning, packing and sorting, all while trying to enjoy our last few days in Dicky Beach. While work filled the weekdays, we still made time for a highlight: $25 steak night at Moffat Beach Brewery — an absolute win. You get a delicious steak and a beer for that price? Can’t say no to that.
Wrapping Up in Dicky
We spent our final night in town exactly how we wanted — packing down the awning and heading across the road to the Dicky Beach Surf Club for dinner and drinks. Honestly, this place has become a bit of a favourite. The food never misses — and Rachael’s nachos? Cheesy to the max.
Then came Friday — our last day of work before hitting the road again. Rachael prepped a hearty pot of curried sausages in the Eco Pot so we’d have something warm ready at the other end. But just as we were getting ready to roll… something wasn’t right.
Turns out the power point at our site had melted. Yep — actually melted. Thankfully it didn’t catch fire, but it gave us a bit of a fright (and a few questions to sort out later). With that slightly alarming discovery still in the back of our minds, we hit the road for the next big adventure.
Muster Time – Hangar O with the Zoners
Our destination? Gunalda, for the 2025 Zone RV Owners Muster at Hangar O. We were so excited — and a little nervous — for our first muster, but any nerves disappeared the moment we arrived.
We caught up with Peter and Bernadette, who we’d met way back on the Eyre Peninsula, and they introduced us to a brilliant group of fellow Zoners. From that moment on, it was campfire drinks, laughs, and instant new mates (including those of the furry kind).
As for those curried sausages? Well… we may have forgotten all about them until around 9:30pm when we finally headed back to the van. Lucky for us, Rachael had left them warming in the Eco Pot, and they were perfectly cooked and waiting for us. A very late dinner, but absolutely worth the wait after a few drinks!
Dancing, Drinks & the Nutbush
Saturday rolled around and we took it slow, soaking up the beautiful property, meeting more Zone owners, and just enjoying the relaxed vibes. As the sun went down, the firepits lit up, the live music kicked off, and we all gathered around the bar. Then it happened…
The Nutbush was called, and you better believe Rachael was straight in there. That dance is her jam, and after two energetic rounds, she was well and truly warmed up (and so was everyone else).
The night continued with a complimentary drink from Zone, a delicious dinner, and chats by the fire under the stars. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off our travel stint.

Coastal Bliss in Woodgate
Sunday morning… one of us had a bit of a fuzzy head (naming no names) as we made our way to the coast. And wow — Woodgate turned out to be an absolute gem.
Calm waters, sunshine, dolphins, kangaroos going for a swim (!) — it felt like we’d stumbled into paradise. We even caught up with fellow travellers we’d met back in Port Hedland, and their adorable pups made it all the more fun.
We’re finally back doing what we love — exploring new places, meeting great people, and soaking up all the little moments that make van life so rewarding.
Here’s to whatever comes next.
